About the Practice
JTWack & Company is a marketing research and consulting
practice begun in 1982 by the firm's principal, Jeffery T.
Wack, Ph.D. Marketing is bigger than just advertising and
communications. Customer decisions are driven by qualities
of the client's product, pricing, organizational policies,
employee expertise, and marketing
communications. The products offered by JTWack & Company
are not the brochures or websites or other visible tools commonly
associated with marketing. Rather, they are the less tangible
abilities — analytic skill, wisdom, judgment, experience,
training, perspective, teamwork, and humor — that are
essential to addressing the big questions about the effective
management of markets.
Jeff Wack has completed more than 500 projects for dozens
of well-known educational institutions, health care organizations,
nonprofit foundations, and technology firms. Research projects
have addressed myriad segments of the market, and have employed
quantitative and qualitative methodologies including scientific
surveys, focus groups, and depth interviews. Organizations
also retain Jeff to consult on marketing problems, to evaluate
marketing organizations, to introduce integrated marketing,
and to lead the evolution of market-based thinking.
In addition to being a consultant, Jeff is an educator,
writer, speaker, and volunteer. After attending middle school
in Africa, then high school in Illinois, he graduated from
Duke University magna cum laude with concentrations in Biochemistry
and Political Science, and with distinction in Psychology.
He then earned his M.S., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in Applied
Psychology at Yale University where he focused on research
methodology and statistics in addition to substantive areas
such as decision making, perception, and marketing. From
1988-2008, Jeff was a member of the adjunct faculty at Yale,
teaching graduate courses and writing about marketing. For
two years in the mid-1990's, he was Acting Director of Strategic
Marketing and Planning for a large health system. He has
served on the boards of several associations, a venture
capital enterprise, and an airport authority, and currently
is on the Board of the National Association of Independent
Schools (NAIS).

and Facilitation
- Speaking
JTWack & Company has a wealth of marketing knowledge
and perspective that it shares regularly with management
in various fields. Speaking is available for privately-contracted
speeches, key-note addresses, and seminars, but must
be selective in the invitations that he accepts.
- Facilitation
Jeff will occasionally conduct board governance workshops
and facilitate planning discussions.
- Professional Development
Jeff conducts marketing education workshops and in-services.
He also produces two events tailored to educational
administrators: the Marketing
and Advancement Institute for Independent Schools
and the Business of Independent
Schools Institute. The firm also teams up with
Michelle Gall to offer professional development workshops
in the areas of internal marketing, managing relationships,
and workplace culture.
